In-Reply-To: References: <24F8712C-6136-4C17-AB22-B139BD00A6C5@gmail.com> Message-ID: Woot! I initially reconnected the connector on the hard drive end and then today did it on the logic board too and suddenly iTunes recognized it again and got it setup and initialized. I lost the data that was on there, but hey I have backups :D As I write this I am listening to music off of my formerly dead iPod that's now been resurrected. Thanks brandon. I decided to name it something appropriate this time :) ? I want to keep the computer for yet another year or two if I can, so I'm toying with the idea of putting a 160GB drive into it instead. I realize that these computers were normally not designed for upgrades like this, but I've seen some instructions on the internet about how you can do it. Have any of you ever attempted this stunt? Is it feasible to do it? I think it might be a welcome challenge, but I don't have any experience with upgrading a computer, and obviously I don't want to break my computer. If I can upgrade this thing, how much attention do I need to give toward what type of hard drive I'm buying? What type is appropriate for the G4? It is fairly involved, especially since you have to separate the processor from the heat sink, meaning you have to remove the old thermal paste and put on new paste before closing it back up. It is very important to have this done correctly, or the processor won't be cooled effectively. You want to look for any IDE (aka PATA) drive that is 3.5". That is a very common drive style. I personally would buy a Seagate or Hitachi drive. Take a look at newegg.com for good deals. -- Brandon Newendorp On Sep 3, 2007, at 2:30 PM, "Karl M. Holding down shift when opening adium prevents it from auto connecting on startup, at which point you can test each protocol and attach a sampler. Now it seems to be working again though, wtf.
